Challenge

The redesign built upon a solid foundation, as the previous UX was functional and met user needs. However, there were opportunities for improvement, particularly in modernizing the visual design, simplifying complex workflows, and creating a more cohesive design language. The original interface, while effective, lacked the intuitive hierarchy and polished aesthetic needed to enhance user focus and engagement. Additionally, it didn’t fully leverage modern design trends to align with the system’s innovative, high-tech nature.

Results

My team and I successfully redesigned a cutting-edge counter-drone system, achieving an elegant dark mode that perfectly aligns with the product’s advanced nature. We introduced trendy features such as sleek glass effects and neon-highlighted accents, creating a visually striking yet highly functional interface. These design choices enhanced the system’s aesthetic appeal and improved usability by guiding users intuitively through critical workflows.

The result is a modern, polished experience that balances sophistication with clarity, empowering users to operate the system with confidence and precision.

My Role

UI Detail design : Collaborated with the lead designer and UX researcher to ensure a cohesive and visually consistent design across all screens and edge cases. Delivered detailed UI specifications, including color schemes, typography, and iconography, to maintain a seamless user experience throughout the app. Worked closely with the development team to ensure design accuracy during implementation..

Style Guide Creation : Took ownership of creating a comprehensive style guide and design library for the new concept developed by the lead designer. This included atomic components and complex modules to ensure consistency across the app. Delivered the design library to the development team, which received positive feedback from all teams involved.

Usability Testing : Facilitated usability tests with existing users of the app’s previous version to evaluate the new design. Collected feedback, identified areas for improvement, and refined the design accordingly. The final design received highly positive feedback from both users and stakeholders.

Design QA : Collaborated with the development and QA teams to review the final product before release. Conducted design QA to ensure the implemented designs matched the specifications and maintained visual consistency across all components. Addressed issues such as layout inconsistencies, incorrect typography, and misaligned elements, ensuring a pixel-perfect and user-friendly final product.

Conclusion

The Counter-Drone System Re-design project was a significant opportunity to contribute to a critical cybersecurity product by enhancing its usability, consistency, and visual clarity. In my role, I played a key part in ensuring the success of the project by collaborating with the lead designer and UX researcher on detailed UI design, creating a comprehensive style guide, conducting usability testing, and performing design QA to deliver a polished, user-friendly final product. The final solution not only addressed user pain points but also received highly positive feedback from both end users and stakeholders, reflecting the value of thoughtful design in high-stakes, security-focused environments.
